The West Ferris No Frills Bantam house league team won the Bell Sensplex Capital House League Championship tournament in the Bantam “B” (non-contact division) last weekend.

Round robin play began with a 2-0 victory over the Metcalfe Jets. Max Udeschini and Joshua Herst-Farelli scored for No Frills while Michael Siblock recorded the shutout.

The second game ended in a 1-1 tie with the South End Storm from the Ottawa area. Tanner Maude scored early in the first period and the lead held up until South End scored with 34 seconds left in the game.

No Frills beat a Nepean team 4-0 in the final round robin game to ensure a playoff spot. Adam Youmell, Zachary Desbiens, Daniel Rheault and Joshua Herst-Farelli scored while Michael Siblock recorded his second shutout of the tourney.

The quarter-finals matched No Frills against Kelly’s Pumps, also from North Bay. No Frills won the fast-paced game 4-2 with Adam Youmell notching a hat-trick and Cole Valenti scoring another. Malcolm Melong and Austin Tonkin replied for Kelly’s Pumps.

A 3-1 win over a Kingston squad in the semi-finals was sealed with goals from Lucas Spencer, Cole Valenti and Joshua Herst-Farelli.

The finals pitted the team against another Ottawa squad, the West End Bandits. Cole Valenti opened the scoring early in the first period before West End tied it in the second. A scoreless third period and two three minute overtime periods settled nothing, so it was off to a best of five shots shootout. Goals by Lucas Spencer and Jess Lamoureux gave No Frills a 2-1 shootout lead after four shots by each team. Michael Siblock stoned the final West End shooter to seal the championship victory.

With balanced scoring and great team defense, including strong performances by defensemen Josiah Humphries and Steven Antler, No Frills brought the title home.
