The Mississauga Steelheads broke open a 2-1 game with five unanswered goals in the second and third period en route to a convincing 7-1 win over the North Bay Battalion at the Hershey Centre on Friday night.

The loss is the Troops eighth straight.

The setback also spoiled the debut for new Battalion netminder Christian Purboo

Purboo, making his first OHL appearance after joining the Troops from the Oakville Blades of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, faced 33 shots.

With the Troops down 2-0, rookie Patrick Brown seemed to give the Troops a spark as he netted a shorthanded tally early in the second period.

Jacob Cascagnette scored two goals as the Mississauga Steelheads ended a four-game losing skid.  Nicolas Hague and Trent Fox each had one goal and one assist and Shaw Boomhower, Cole Schwindt and Cameron Gaylor added a goal apiece for Mississauga.

Steelheads Goaltender Emanuel Vella made 23 saves before an announced Hershey Centre crowd of 1,989.

The Battalion, who fall to 3-6-2, are back home on Sunday afternoon as they face the Kingston Frontenacs. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. at Memorial Gardens
