One of two semi-finals were able to be played tonight before the thunderstorms, with the third place St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears facing the second place Algonquin Barons at Veterans Field.

Scollard lost both meetings in the regular season and it looked like a repeat of the same in the first inning when Miguel Champagne made quick work of the Bears hitters, and the Barons getting two players on base in the bottom half of the inning. The Bears escaped that inning unscathed.

The Bears were finally able to solve Champagne in the 3rd inning, when they sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring 6 runs in the process. The highlight was a two run single by catcher Rob Beauchamp. RBI singles were also collected by Dylan Staples, Tyler Besner, and Greg Gravelle. Champagne would go on to shut the Bears out for the rest of the game. He finished with a complete game.

Tyler Besner also went the distance for the Bears, allowing single runs in the 5th and 7th innings. He escaped a jam in the final inning (runner at third, one out), by getting a ground-out, and then catching the third base runner in a run-down to end the game.

The final score was 6-2 for St. Joseph-Scollard Hall. Besner, Gravelle and Alex Dinezza all reached base twice in the game for the Bears, while Champagne and Brad Berube each reached base twice for the Barons.

The Bears await for the results of the semi-final between Northern and West Ferris, to be played on Monday.
