On Saturday, October 13th North Bay got to play host to the Big Leagues.

The National Ringette League opened up their 2007/2008 season with a pair of games between the Richmond Hill Lightning and the Cambridge Turbos. Both games were played at the Pete Palangio Arena, and broadcast live to tape on TVCogeco.

North Bay's local cable provider will air the games in its entirety at a later date.

In the first game, a one sided affair, Cambridge was unstoppable as they dominated from start to finish as they skated away with an 8-0 victory over Richmond Hill.

It was a much tigher affair in the second game, as it was back and forth for the whole game. Richmond Hill started out strong, and took the early 2-0 lead, but Cambridge didnt give up, and kept the pressure on, and clawed their way back to the game. Cambridge then took the lead, and never lost. In the end the final was 6-5 for Cambridge.

Both teams played their heart out in the games, and all players had fun.

Many fans showed up to watch the game, and the arena was packed. Following the second game, kids were lining up all over getting autographs from all of the players.

This was the third year in a row that the National Ringette League has come to North Bay, but the first ever that the season opened in North Bay.

Next up for North Bay players and coached to watch some elite ringette, is the World Ringette Championships in Ottawa from October 31st to November 4th, where many of North Bay ringette fans will be heading down to watch.
