North Bay native Russ Moyer finished his Canadian College hockey career last spring and has elected to turn pro. The 25-year-old former Acadia Axemen defenceman has signed on with the Muskegon Fury of the International Hockey League; formerly known as the United Hockey League.

Moyer had four goals and 14 assists totaling 18 points in his final season of CIS hockey. The Fury seems to have pretty high hopes for the former Ottawa 67’s defenceman.

“As far as Russ Moyer is concerned, he is expected to be one of the best rookies in the IHL for the upcoming season,” said Fury Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Bruce Ramsay in a press release.

“He is a solid defenseman who possesses good offensive talents and instincts. He has excellent speed and we look for him to create and contribute offensively for us this new season.”

Moyer will join the Fury at their main camp which commences on October 1st.

Russ' brother Beau Moyer will begin his first season as associate coach this fall with the Great North Midget League's North Bay Trappers.
