Taylor Milne of Callander, finished well back in ninth position in the third of three heats in the 3000 m Steeplechase this morning in Rio with a time of 8:34:38, well back of his personal best time of 8:19:90.

That time had him finish 26th overall and out of the finals.

In the third heat Milne started out in the middle of the pack of the 15 Steeplechase competitors in the heat. But as the race progressed Milne dropped off to the around 10th position midway through his heat.

The 34-year-old who now resides in Guelph, could not catch up to the top six and finished well back.

"Things went rough out there," stated Milne on Facebook after the race.

"I was hoping for and am capable of much better. I really appreciate all the support I've gotten.  I've had a blast running for all these years.  I really wanted to end on a higher note but no regrets from this guy."

The top three racers immediately qualified for the final with the rest of the finalists accumulated from the best remaining times in the three heats.

Canadian Matthew Hughes had the best time of the three Canadian competitors as he finished fourth in the first heat with a time of 8:26:27.  Hughes qualified for the final.

Canadian Chris Winter finished 10th in the second heat with a time of 8:33:95.

Milne qualified with a first place finish in the 3000 m steeplechase final at the 2016 Canadian Championships and Rio Selection Trials which took place in Edmonton in early July.

Milne competed in Beijing in 2008 in the men’s 1500 m.

He switched over from 1500 m specialty to the steeplechase back in 2012.
