Matt Walters on top at NOSSA track and field championships

Matt Walters was selected the top Senior Athlete at the NOSSA track and field championships held Thursday and Friday in Sault Ste. Marie.

Walters won gold in the senior boys 800m (1:59:71), gold in the senior boys 1500m (4:08:72) and gold in the senior boys 3000m. His time of 9:01:46 in the 3000m was good enough to erase his NOSSA record set last year by two seconds.

The NDA top athlete also had a successful event. Alisha Perron - the 2007 & 2008 Fergie Dowdall award winner - captured gold in the Sr. Girls Discus, second in the Sr. Girls Javelin and second in the Sr. Girls shot put.

It was a great two days for Chippewa’s Jennifer Whitehead. She finished first in the Senior Girls High Jump,second in the Sr. Girls 100 M hurdles and third in the Sr. Girls Javelin.

Algonquin’s Adam Price won gold in the Sr. Boys Long Jump.

Chippewa’s Curtis Megginson finished second in the Sr. Boys Javelin.

The Algonquin Barons team of Jean Beniot, Benoit Boulay, Adam Price, Patrick Dufresne, and Patrick Laferriere captured silver in the 4 x 400 Meter Boys open race.

Algonquin’s Jordan Mino and Charles Morris finished one-two in the 1500 M wheelchair event.

Top finishers at NOSSA have qualified for the OFSAA track and field championships which will be held June 5, 6 and 7 in Hamilton, Ontario.
