North Bay’s Matt Marquardt has been invited as part of the Ottawa Senators 22 player roster which will play games against prospect teams from Carolina, Montreal, Toronto, and Florida next week in the nation's capital.

Ironically, Marquardt will be re-united with former teammate and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhound Andrew Gibbons, who played minor Atom AAA with him in North Bay in the mid 90’s.

The 18 year old went undrafted in the seven round NHL draft in early August but will play this fall with the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL.

He’s already made an impression at his major junior camp in the Maritimes, scoring twice in Moncton’s exhibition opener and is getting rave reviews from his coach, former NHL coach of the year, Ted Nolan.

"I think from Day 1 all the way through he's probably been the best player we have in camp," Moncton head coach and director of hockey operations Ted Nolan told the Times and Transcript.

"If he plays half as well in the regular season as he has in camp, he's going to be a real good player.”

McMahon doesn't make the cut

Former Trapper Lance McMahon has been cut by the QMJHL's Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and will play this fall with the Brockville Braves of the Central Junior Hockey League.

McMahon expects to remain as an affiliate player with Cape Breton so he can get called up by the major junior franchise at some point this season.
