A pair of North Bay area players claimed silver playing for the Toronto Pro Hockey Brick Team 2000 at the Ronald McDonald Tournament in Toronto on the weekend.

Dylan Bond (North Bay), Gavin Shaw (North Bay) and Damien Giroux (Valley East), have played Spring Hockey for the North Bay based Eurocamp Summer Stars.

Summer Stars coordinator Randy Edmonds helped these Northern players get tryouts with the high profile Toronto based spring/summer program.

“This tournament is one of the top, if not the top tourney of the summer and it was nice to see so many Northern Ontario kids participating,” said Edmonds whose son Lucas plays with the Pro Hockey Team 2001 along with area players Peyton Vescio and Cole Craft.

“Just to think 5 years ago we had none and now we had both players and teams competing from North Bay from the 2003 level up to the 94 division playing the top players and teams from Canada and USA. Sometimes we think we are not progressing but we have come a long way in 5 years when we have so many kids participating at this level it bodes well for our local teams down the road.”

The Ronald McDonald tourney involved teams from as far away as Vancouver and Detroit.
