The Region 2 Under 16 Volleyball tryouts took place this past weekend at Canadore College and Nipissing University. Region 2 of the Ontario Volleyball Association represents Northeastern Ontario. The tryout included over 80 athletes from communities including New Liskeard, Timmins, Cochrane, North Bay, South River, Sturgeon Falls, Greater Sudbury, Elliot Lake, Iron Bridge, and Sault Ste Marie. These athletes were competing to represent Region 2 at the Ontario Summer Games that will be held in Ottawa August 6-13th.
Shane St. Louis will be the head coach of the U-16 girl’s team. Mona Morton and Lindsay Carson will act as the assistant coaches. St. Louis is currently the head coach of the men’s varsity team at College Boreal. “I am pleased with the size of our team. Our impressive height will help us dominate the net at the summer games. These girls will light it up for our region this summer!” St. Louis commented.

Richard Faucher is the head coach of the U-16 boy’s team. Jessica Filice will be his assistant. Faucher just returned from playing professional volleyball in France. “I am satisfied with the turnout for the tryout. The athletes worked really hard and showed a lot of skill development over the course of the weekend. We have picked a team with a lot of diversity. I am looking forward to a strong performance at the summer games,” said Faucher.
