Local product in conversation for Team Canada’s World Junior team

'The coaches knew when they recruited me what I was capable of, and I don't see any reason to let them down'

He has trained with both Team Canada and Team USA but North Bay’s Colton Point’s red-hot start has caught the attention of TSN Director of Scouting’s Craig Button, who has stated that the former North Bay AAA Trappers goalie should be considered for one of the goaltending positions on Team Canada for the World Juniors which face-off in 40 days in Buffalo, NY.

“The third goaltender (on my list) is not a household name, but Colton Point is putting up big time numbers at Colgate University,” stated Button on TSN.

Yes, the stats don’t lie.

The Dallas Stars prospect has a 7-1-4 record with Colgate University along with a 1.46 goals against average and a stingy .952 save percentage.

"[Colton's] doing what we expect him to do. You see goalies in the NHL making 35-40 saves per night, and that's what he's doing for us right now. We just have to try and find him some offense and support him in that regard," Colgate coach Don Vaughan told media after a recent November win.

The 19-year-old Point didn't see a lot of playing time as a freshman in 2016-17.

Point was slowed by an illness early in the season and played in only ten games. He was expected to be the No. 1 guy for Colgate this season, and he hasn't disappointed.

"I've just been doing my thing," Point told media after a 0-0 tie against Princeton in early November.

"I know what it takes for me to be good and make sure I do all of those things. The coaches knew when they recruited me what I was capable of, and I don't see any reason to let them down."
