Local Peewee's help Northern team to Gold

The “North Bay Line” of Tait Seguin, Danny Desrosiers, and Tyler Kennedy played a big part in helping the Sudbury-based Northern Ontario Leafs tournament team win the Peewee AAA gold medal at last weekend’s Ottawa 67s AAA Tournament.

There were 10 teams, split into two divisions, and the Leafs advanced to the semi-finals with 3 wins and a tie. They dominated the Grinders from Quebec in the semi-final with a score of 8 to 2. Danny had several nice goals in these contests.

In the other division, the Ottawa Valley Selects went undefeated and managed to get by the gritty St. Lawrence Irish in the other semi-final.

The stage was then set for the two undefeated teams to meet in the Gold Medal game. Both teams had good skaters and knew how to move the puck well. For a good while the game was scoreless. Then Tait overpowered their defensemen behind the net and got the puck back to the point. Tyler then deflected a blast from the blue line for the first goal.

From that point on, the Leafs dominated the game with their superior physical play and close checking. Tait scored the third and final goal short-handed to secure the 3-0 victory.

It was a great experience for these North Bay boys to join this post-season team and play tournaments in Ottawa and Toronto (which the Leafs also won undefeated). By forming an elite team with boys from Manitoulin to North Bay – and even one boy from Moose Factory! – the Northern boys were able to compete with AAA teams from the much larger population centres of Ottawa and Montreal.
