Recently the Northern Ontario Provincial POA Championships were held in Azilda, Ontario. Three tournaments were combined into one, the POA Classic, the PST League Executive and the High-Low Doubles.

The POA Classic Event saw our two strong teams finish 6th and 10th.Our Gateway#1 team coached by Hugh Cosgrove ranked 2nd for total pins over their average(765), Stephanie Whitehead of St. Charles walked away with an overall POA Singles ranking of 1st ,343 pins over her average. Also on that team was Tim Tremblay of North Bay who bowled 147 pins over his average. Yvonne Campaner also from North Bay bowled 232 pins over her average. On Gateway#2 team coached by Pat Hosking, Dan Dokis from Sturgeon Falls bowled a plus 100 over his average.

The League Executive Event saw Ed Tremblay(President) from St. Charles finish 4th and Marc Girard(Treasurer)from Sturgeon Falls finish 4th , bowling 162 pins over his average. Tracey McLeod(Secretary)from St. Charles finished with a Silver medal, just barely missing the gold by 4 pins, Tracey bowled 210 pins above her average.

The POA High-Low Doubles Event garnered Gateway a 4th place finish and a Gold Medal finish. All our ladies bowl out of North Bay, Christine Chomicki (+131) and Charlene Rondeau(+256) had a combined pins over average total of 387, they were just 10 pins shy of a bronze medal finish. Debbie Ruck(+160) and Joanne Boissonneault(+480) got off to a rocky start at the bottom of the ladder, with 60 pins in the hole. But with sheer desire, lots of energy and no where else to go, but up. They climbed that ladder in leaps and bounds, going from last to first. Finishing with a plus 640 pins over their average. Joanne did an awesome job ranking 1st overall POA(total event). Joanne and Debbie will next head to Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 26th to compete in The National High-Low Doubles Event, with the other Provincial winners vying to be the best in Canada. Good Luck and go for Gold girls.

The Gateway contingent snagged the prestigious Aggregate Gold Medal, scoring the most points overall, for the 2nd consecutive year. Way to go team, way to make us proud.
