It took a 6 on 3 advantage late in the second period to finally score on the York Lions star netminder Emma Wedgewood.

That indicated how difficult it was for the Nipissing Lakers to score in a short-lived playoff run.

That was the only goal the Lakers could score as the York Lions swept the Lakers in two straight in the best-of-three OUA quarterfinals as they fell 6-1 to the Lions in game two Friday afternoon in northern Toronto.

After the Lions pulled out a 1-0 overtime win in North Bay on Wednesday night, the Lions were able to solve star Lakers netminder Emma Sandquist twice in the opening 10 minutes of the first period as Kaitlin Teixeira and Jillian Milligan got the Lions up 2-0.

Midway through the second period, Sydney Hiltz beat Sandquist on a breakaway that made it 3-0.

After that goal, Turcotte elected to pull Sandquist in favour of Sladics Jordan.

With a power play, Turcotte made the bold move to pull the goalie for a 6 on 4 power play, but Sydney Paulson scored a rare empty net second period shorthanded goal which made it 4-0.

Despite that result, Turcotte pulled his goaltender again late in the second period and that's when Maggie McKee finally solved Emma Wedgewood on a 6 on 3 which made it 4-1 after two periods.

However, Alexa Giantsopoulos took any of the Lakers momentum away with an early third period goal which made it 5-1.

Lola Massey added a late power play marker to secure the 6-1 Lions win which ended the Lakers season.
