The Lakers Seamus Strutt took home athlete of week honours as the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) named its athletes and teams of the week. Strutt a 6’4” left side player was named the 2004-05 OCAA rookie of the year and continues to assert himself as a dominant player in the OCAA.

Strutt was a force on the court last week as he scored 24 points against cross campus rivals the Canadore Panthers to give the Lakers the narrow 3-2 victory. Nipissing also played host to the 2005 Lakers Invitational Men’s Volleyball Tournament on the weekend in which the Lakers claimed gold and Strutt was named the championship player of the game as well as the tournament’s most valuable player.

“Seamus was an instant impact player in his rookie season as he led the team in points per game,” said head coach Duane Culin. “Seamus is 6’4” with an impressive vertical which makes it very difficult for teams to stop him. He has been working hard on the other dimensions of his game and with another two years of eligibility after this year we are excited to see how good he will become.”

Strutt will be leading the way as the 2-1 Lakers take on the strong 3-1 Fanshawe Falcons in a pivotal cross-over match Saturday at the Surtees Gym.
