The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team has begun the difficult task of improving on an outstanding season.

It’s a good challenge that awaits Lakers head coach Eric Yung and his staff and it started with the signing of Liam Ludlow, who joins the Lakers after finishing up his career with the Barrie Elites Volleyball Club.

Ludlow, an outside hitter with the Elites, is looking forward to the next step and a new opportunity.

“I'm looking forward to working towards our team goals throughout the season, and building on the success the Nipissing Men's Volleyball team has already had,” said Ludlow, who participated in OFSAA three times and has one silver medal to show.

“I’m also looking forward to my program, business-marketing.”

A combination of athletic and academic success is what attracted Ludlow to Nipissing, as he mentioned he’s able to continue his volleyball career, along with earning an education.

“I chose Nipissing because I feel it is my best option to be successful on and off the court,” Ludlow said.

“The guys on the team and the atmosphere at the school made me feel like I was part of the Lakers Family right away.”

Yung is looking forward to having Ludlow join the program and he believes that through hard work Ludlow can become key contributor to the team.

"We are looking forward to working with Liam for years to come, we believe he has the right tools to be successful on and off the court here at Nipissing," said Yung.

"We love his athletic ability and his approach to the game, he brings a calm demeanor on the court and is extremely aggressive offensively."

For Ludlow, who will be graduating from Eastview Secondary School, he feels his strengths will be his leadership, as well as his ability to attack and take advantage of the opportunities in front of him.

While he knows there will be a transition period and it will take some time to become accustomed to the style of play in the OUA, he’s excited about suiting up in the blue and green.

“I'm looking to bring a leadership role to this team by continuously working hard and pushing my teammates past their limits and making my teammates better around me,” he said.

“I want to be able to do that, all while performing at a high level on the court with my aggressive play type.”
