The annual celebration of North Bay’s and Canada’s armed forces, as well as the Canadian and United States Air Force is scheduled for Saturday, January 27th at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.
The annual game, which has always been against RMC (Royal Military College of Canada) will see the Lakers don camouflage uniforms which will be auctioned off through a silent auction and presented to the winning bid post-game.
“We have a great relationship with the 22 Wing Canadian Forces Base North Bay and this is our way of showing our gratitude to them and to all the men and women of the armed forces,” said Lakers Athletic Director Vito Castiglione.
“This game has always attracted a large crowd and we’re looking forward to a great atmosphere.”
Lakers head coach Mike McParland says this military game is always a fun night and a great game.
“RMC always works hard and gives us all we can handle. And this year, they’re playing very well, so we’ll have to be at our best,” Lakers men’s hockey team head coach Mike McParland said.
“The ability to support and recognize the men and women of the armed forces, raise money for the MFRC and entertain the men and women in uniform is great and we look forward to January 27.”
All the funds raised from the jersey auction go to the North Bay Military Family Resource Centre.
"As a not for profit, receiving donations like this can help us enhance programs and services to meet the unique needs of military families throughout Northeastern Ontario,” said Tessa Clermont, MFRC Executive Director.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support, and we look forward to cheering on the Lakers at the game.”
The base commander appreciates Nipissing's goodwill.
“This game is an excellent opportunity for military members and their families to relax, unwind, and enjoy some great local hockey all-the-while supporting the North Bay Military Family Resource Centre that supports the troops,” said Colonel Mark Roberts, 22 Wing Commander.
