KINGSTON, ON - Matt Paton had two goals and the Nipissing Lakers scored 3 times in both the 1st and 2nd periods as they defeated the RMC Paladins 8-2 on Saturday night.

Dorian Peca, Grant Toulmin, Brandon Biggers, Vern Cooper, Lucas McKinley and Brogan Bailey had the other goals.

"In the first period they got up 1-0, but we battled back and in the second half of the 2nd period we pulled away," said Lakers head coach Mike McParland.

It wasn't an easy win as the Lakers left on the bus right after their home win Friday night over Ryerson, however a mechanical issue with the bus delayed their journey as they didn't pull into Kingston until 5:30 a.m.

Overall, McParland was pleased with how his team came out and snatched a pair of wins to start 2013.

"Over a month off you aren’t sure which way it would go but guys worked hard and it paid off," said McParland.

"Matt Paton had another good game and we had scoring from all 4 lines which was a bonus."

Dan Spence made 29 saves for the win.

The win improves the Lakers record to 9-8-2 good for 20 points which leaves them in 6th spot but tied with 5th place Ottawa and 4th place McGill with 20 points. However, Ottawa has one game in hand and McGill has 2 games in hand on the Lakers.

The Lakers are back at home on Friday, January 11th when they again will face the RMC Paladins. Game time is 7 pm at Memorial Gardens.
