MONTREAL, QC – The Lakers may not have won but they proved they can compete with the best in the OUA.
MONTREAL, QC – The Lakers may not have won but they proved they can compete with the best in the OUA.
Maxime Langelier-Parent scored a breakaway goal shorthanded early in the third period breaking a 1-1 tie as the McGill Redmen went on to a 4-1 win over the Nipissing Lakers in game one of the OUA East Division best-of-three series at McConnell arena Wednesday night.
Evan Vossen opened the scoring for the Redmen on the power play late in the first period. Dan Watt replied with a power play goal for the Lakers with less than 2 minutes to play in the second period.

Vossen and Langelier-Parent notched their second of the game each less than 2 minutes apart late in the third to put game one away for the favourites.

Lakers head coach Mike McParland had nothing but praise for his first year club in their OUA playoff debut.
“We had an outstanding effort,” said McParland.

"We worked hard - we were even with them after two periods. We couldn’t capitalize on our changes. We fought hard and we aren’t discouraged and we won a lot of respect tonight.”

Lakers goalie Billy Stone was impressive as well in this game as well turning away 42 Redmen shots.

The two clubs finished 1 for 8 on the power play, however, the Redmen game winner was a shorthanded goal.

The two teams return to North Bay for game 2 of the best-of-three series Friday night at Memorial Gardens where the Lakers will look to even up the series and keep their Cinderella season going in what will be a potential elimination game in this short series.
