This past weekend the West Ferris Lady Trojans hosted the Lady Trojan Classic Basketball Tournament. 24 Teams came to the city to challenge for the Junior and Senior titles. The N.D.A. was represented in the Junior division by the host Lady Trojans, Algonquin Barons Chippewa Raiders and the Widdifield Wildcats. On the Senior side squads from West Ferris, Chippewa and Widdifield represented the N.D.A.

In the 12-team junior tournament the Trojans, Barons and Wildcats all finished 2nd in pool play and the Raiders finished 3rd in their pool. Last years powerhouse St. Mary's from Sault Ste Marie returned to defend their title and did so with a 1st place finish in round robin play. With a victory over Midland in the semi-final St.Mary's defended their title against a stubborn Espanola team that had advanced by defeating Barrie's Joan of Arc High school.

The championship final game saw both teams exchange several leads throughout the game with St. Mary's finally sealing the deal with a 40-36 victory.

The All-star team from the Junior side of the tournament saw Kally Watmore from West Ferris earn 1st team status while Chippewa's Cori Toschak was voted to the 2nd team.

The Senior side of the Tournament saw the Lady Trojans and Chippewa Raiders each finish in 2nd place in their respective pools. Widdifield finished 3rd in their pool play.

This year's senior tournament was quite competitive. The semi-finals saw Bracebridge Lakers and Sir James Dunn square off and the Barrie squad from Joan of Arc battled L'Horizon from Sudbury.

Both Bracebridge and Joan of Arc were victorious in their semi final matches setting up a championship final showdown between the 2 teams who had met earlier in round robin pool play with Joan of Arc coming out on top at that time.

In the final Joan of Arc edged Bracebridge 41-40.

The N.D.A. was represented by Aaron Paibomsai from the West Ferris Lady Trojans as she was voted to the all-star team by the coaches.
