The Nipissing University Lady Lakers volleyball team swept the visiting Georgian Grizzlies in a five set exhibition match (25-23, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19, 15-11).

The Lady Lakers put together a solid performance in their final pre-season match before the beginning of the regular season October 12 and 13th in Windsor and Sarnia. Stefanie Hancock led the Lakers offense with 12 kills, 1 ace, 1 block and added a team high 13 digs while Laura Hudson poured in 9 kills and two blocks. Lakers newcomer Chandra Massey had a solid game scoring 7 kills, 1ace, one block and added 11 digs.

“Overall we played a good match,” said head coach Marc LaRochelle. “We are still a little nervous and tentative but that will go away once we gain some experience and confidence,”

“Our goal today was to provide some playing time for the entire roster in order to gain some valuable match experience. Our veterans did a good job of stabilizing the floor while our rookies played very well and got stronger as the match progressed.”

The Lakers will have five practices before they begin their defence of the 2006-07 OCAA championship title.
