The Nipissing Lady Lakers volleyball team has been selected the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) team of the week. The Lady Lakers completed a week that saw the team dominate the Sault Cougars 3-0 and then knock off the number one team in the province the Mohawk Mountaineers with a 3-2 road victory moving the Lakers to an 8-3 regular season record.
“I think this is a nice honor for our team,” said head coach Marc LaRochelle. “We beat a very experienced and skilled Mohawk team. The encouraging part is that we still believe we have improvements to make and that we have not played to our full potential as a team.”
With the win the Lady Lakers have secured a playoff position and will be playing a cross over match in mid February for the right to advance to the OCAA championships hosted by Fanshawe College.
The Lady Lakers are back in action Thursday at the Education Centre Gym as the Canadore Panthers host the Lakers. The women kick things off at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8:00 p.m.
