North Bay's Kevin Kerr now owns the record for most goals in the history of minor pro hockey. He scored his 664th goal on Friday night to pass Scott Gruhl's mark of 663.

It may have taken him longer than expected but Kevin Kerr's second goal of the season Friday night versus the Fort Wayne Komets gives him 664 goals, breaking the all-time minor pro goal scoring record of 663 set by Scott Gruhl, who did it from 1979 - 1996.

As the puck went in, the Generals players emptied their bench to congratulate Kerr and to celebrate his accomplishment in setting the new record. The game was stopped for a brief moment as the United Hockey League’s Vice President, Brad Jones, was on hand to present Kerr with a commemorative plaque.

Flint Generals President/Owner, Dr. Khaled Shukairy, and Vice President/Head Coach, Robbie S. Nichols also presented Kerr with a plaque in recognition of this great accomplishment.

Kerr’s jersey worn during the record breaking goal will be sent to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

The Flint Generals forward missed his United Hockey League team's first 28 games due to an injury but returned on December 22nd when he scored the record tying goal.

The 37 year old's record breaking journey caught the attention of the National media, as Kerr's picture was on the front cover of the Hockey News. The story called Kerr hockey's "Bull Durham."

Kerr told the Hockey News that he had wished to score the record tying and record breaking goal quickly when he returned.

"It will be nice to get it over with and put it in the past," Kerr told the Hockey News back in November.

"When I come back there's going to be a lot of hoopla and for the sake of the team and the rest of the players it would be good to get it over with so it doesn't drag on and take away from the importance of winning games," Kerr told the Hockey News.

The former Centennial who's minor pro career started in 1987, did drag out the record breaking journey long than he had hoped. Kerr was held off the scoreboard in 5 games and missed a 6th contest due to a death in the family after scoring goal number 663.
