The North Bay Junior Varsity Bulldogs started off with an impressive display of offence and defence as they defeated the Hamilton Ti-Cats 28-0 in Hamilton on the weekend in the Bulldogs season opener.

The team scored it’s first TD on a 15 yard pass to Evan Desrosier from Mason McGriskin. Later in the second quarter the offense put together a solid drive capped by a two-yard run by Mason McGriskin behind his offensive line. Again late in the quarter the defense held fast and put the offense back on the field with less than a minute from the 50 yard line. The offense drove down to the six yard line and with only a few seconds left they attempted a FG but a mishandled snap kept the lead to 14-0 at the half.

In the third quarter,  the offense took to the ground and saw Ryan McColeman entertain the visiting team  fans with some tough inside running - again dragging defenders for 1st downs. However, drives in the 3rd quarter were stopped by turnovers as the Ti-Cats intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble later in the quarter. Despite those turnovers, spirits remained positive and high as the defense continued to pursue hard and held off the Ti-Cats.

In the fourth quarter coaches fixed a couple of blocking issues and route execution and put together an impressive drive and with a 1st and goal from the two, Matt Desjardin came in for McGriskin and scored behind the O-Line push to put the team up 21-0.

Later in the quarter Coach Mathon saw an execution flaw and drew up the fix and asked the offense to run it one more time. From their own 16 yard line they called their base play and execution was perfect as Jonathan Warren took the ball a full 94 yards to score to round out the final score at 28–0.

“We still have a ton of work to do and we are not close to perfection and if we want to make an impression on the league we’ll have to work towards perfection every week at practice,” said Coach Marc Mathon.

Jay Turnsek had several sacks, Conor Doyle had 2 batted balls, Philip Fortin finished the day with 3 sacks and 4 tackles.

On offence, Ryan McColeman rushed for 57 yards, Jonathan Warren rushed for 111 yards.
