OSHAWA, ON - The West Ferris Ice Capps U14 Tween A ringette team was in action this past weekend in Oshawa for their first tournament of the season.

In round-robin play, the Ice Capps went undefeated against teams from Waterloo, Gloucester, Ajax and Mississauga, outscoring their competition 29-4. Semi-final action early Sunday morning saw the Ice Capps come out ready to play and skate to an easy 3-0 win over Waterloo, sending them directly to the late morning final with a perfect 5-0 record.

The final contest was more evenly matched as the WFRA entry, first overall in the tournament, met a quick and skilled Richmond Hill Lightning team, who held the second place spot after five games. The Ice Capps started the scoring early but the Lightning quickly responded. At the half, the game was tied but two quick goals in the second gave the Ice Capps a 3-1 lead. Despite numerous shots on net, the door was shut on the Ice Capps by the Richmond Hill goalie and it wouldn’t be long before Richmond Hill would score two more goals to even the score and send the game into overtime.

Only 50 seconds into overtime, Katrina Twaddle, the team rookie, took a pass from Adèle St. Pierre and fired a shot past the stunned Richmond Hill goalie to capture the gold.

Solid goaltending (0.667 GA), excellent defence and consistent offensive plays were evident throughout the weekend as the Ice Capps not only dominated the play but also demonstrated skill, sportsmanship and class on the ice.

This year’s Ice Capps team members are: Diane Begin, Kristen Zamperoni, Katrina Twaddle, Stephanie Bethune, Adele St. Pierre, Ariane Levebvre, Camille Grandmont, Brittany Coughlin, Siobhan Pitz, Courtney McColeman and Olivia Parker.

The Team is coached by Stephanie Coughlin, Tom Parker and Claude St. Pierre and managed by Colleen Parker.
