Playing in their hometown for the first time in five years, the West Ferris Ice Capps Tween A U14 ringette team once again has made their association and their fans proud with another tournament win to cap off a very successful regular season.

With their goalie out due to injury, the Ice Capps were backstopped by stand-in Siobhan Pitz, an Ice Capps forward, who volunteered so that her team could still play in the tournament. Playing with a short bench, only 3 defensive players and shuffled forward lines, the Ice Capps recorded only one loss to the Hamilton Heat on Friday night at the Sam Jacks arena. Convincing wins against Timmins, West Muskoka and Sudbury gave them a 3-1 record which was good enough to secure their place in Sunday’s final against Hamilton.

Although the Heat came out strong and hit the scoresheet first, the Ice Capps were out to prove that their #1 provincial ranking in the Tween A division by the Ontario Ringette Association was accurate. Cheered on by a large and noisy crowd that filled the stands at the Kelly rink, the Ice Capps found their groove and dominated the play throughout the game. Before the end of the contest, the Ice Capps treated their fans to five more beautiful goals and skated away with 6-4 win to clinch the gold.

Looking forward to March break when they will play host to the Provincial A Championships, the Ice Capps now have three gold and one silver medal for the season from tournaments in Oshawa, Waterloo, Richmond Hill and North Bay and are hoping for a solid showing in the final tournament of the season.

Team members are Diane Begin, Kristen Zamperoni, Katrina Twaddle, Stephanie Bethune, Adele St. Pierre, Ariane Lefebvre, Camille Grandmont, Siobhan Pitz, Brittany Coughlin, Courtney McColeman and Olivia Parker. Coaching staff includes head coach Stephanie Coughlin, assistant coach Tom Parker, trainer Claude St. Pierre and manager Colleen Parker.
