The Ice Capps Petite Provincial A/AA Ringette team hit an amazing total this weekend as part of Tom Hedican's Coach4Food initiative.

This morning at their 7:00 a.m. practice the team delivered more than 3,000 pounds of food along with cash donations of $180.00 - all going to the North Bay Food Bank.

That's an amazing total for the West Ferris Ringette team which was originally gunning for 1,000 pounds.

"It was an incredible morning with the Ice Capps," Hedican said after Monday's practice.

"They were awesome both on and off the ice. It was just amazing to see what these girls, along with their parents and the ringette association, could accomplish. To see two half ton trucks and 4 SUVs loaded with food and heading to the food bank is a site I will never forget. The Ice Capps, along with their sponsor Bernard Rochefort Limited, brought in a grand total of 3,331 pounds. I am simply amazed. Thanks to all of them."

Hedican - who coaches in Europe and is the goalie coach for the Sudbury Wolves - started the intiative two years ago. Hedican runs practices using NHL and European professional drills in exchange for money or food to go towards the North Bay Food Bank. It became a key part North Bay’s winning 2007 Hockeyville submission and last spring Hedican brought Montreal Canadiens goaltender Cristobal Huet to North Bay to help thank the community for supporting his initiative. Hedican coached Huet in Europe and he was credited with helping discover the 2006/2007 NHL All-Star.

The Coach4Food campaign wraps up just before Christmas and with amazing totals like 3,331 pounds from only one team, it's expected to be another record breaking initiative.
