The North Bay Midget BB Ice Boltz travelled south this weekend to compete in the Whitby Wolves Tournament of Heroes.
On Friday the Ice Boltz had the first two games of their round robin competition. Facing the Durham Lightning in their first game, the Boltz had to dig deep to pull out a 1-0 win. The second contest of the day was another defensive battle, the North Simcoe Capitals made it exciting with a late third period goal that put them on the board in a 2-1 game. Hard work prevailed and the Boltz held off the Capitals late surge to come away with the win.
Saturday provided the Ice Boltz with their final two round robin games. The Boltz were very good at both ends of the ice coming away with an 8-0 win over the Glenview Illinois Stars and a 6-0 win against the Burlington Barracudas propelling North Bay to Sunday’s Semi-Finals.
In semi-final play the girls once again came prepared, leading 2-0 in the third period they closed the deal with an empty net goal beating the Scarborough Sharks 3-0 to set up the finals with Lindsay Lynx.
The Ice Boltz attention to Defensive roles in all areas of the ice, combined with discipline and hard work proved to be the proper recipe for their success throughout the tournament and the final was no different. The girls won the gold medal game 3-0 in a hard fought battle with a very good opponent.
