North Bay Bantam AA Ice Boltz collected 3 wins over the past weekend in the USA/Canada Cup showcase.

Game one, the Boltz faced #1 ranked team Stoney Creek Sabres. The first period the girls played a tight defensive checking game keeping the Sabres to the outside most of the period but the Sabres scored a late first period goal to go up 1-0. In the second and third the Sabres showed why they are the #1 ranked team by completely dominating the Boltz in all aspects of the game winning handedly 8-0.

In Game two, the Boltz had to regroup as they were about the play another top team the 5th ranked London Devilettes. The two teams came out fast and hard as the first period ended with no score. Devilettes scored 2 goals in the second period capitalizing on a few bounces.

The third period was all Ice Boltz dominating play scoring to make it 2-1 . The Boltz continued to press looking for the tying goal out shooting their opponents 13-5 but the London goaltender made some key saves to preserve the 2-1 victory.

Game three, the Ice Boltz played another top 10 team, 10th ranked Durham West Lightening. The game was fast and physical with the Boltz putting in their best effort of the season. The power play struck with 5 minutes left to break a 1-1 tie. The Boltz continued to press and stay on top of the Lightning scoring another goal a minute and a half later securing a 3-1 victory.

Game four was against Saugeen Maitland Lightening. Boltz started fast scoring early and continued to roll to a 5-1 win.

Game five, Sunday morning the Boltz were up against the 4th ranked team Whitby Wolves. The girls playing with some confidence winning the last 2 games started the game with some strong forechecking and some good defensive zone coverage scoring the lone goal in the first period. The lead would hold midway through the third when the Wolves pounced on a rebound to tie the game 1-1. The Boltz answered back with 2 big goals on the same shift to end any come back chances for the Wolves. Last 5 minutes of the game the Boltz shut down their opponents offence with some good defensive play and strong goaltending. The victory over the Wolves was the biggest win of the season for the Boltz as they defeated one of the top 5 teams in Ontario.

Next up for the Ice Boltz is 3 Lower Lake League games back in Toronto next weekend before they head into Christmas break.
