The North Bay Skyhawks are pleased to announce the signing of a pair of local players to their 2007-2008 roster.

Brothers Brad and Tyler Hummel have recently signed and are looking forward to playing together once again.

Two seasons ago, the brothers lit up the NDA High School league while playing for the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears. After spending the 2006-2007 season apart, (Brad with the Skyhawks and Tyler with the North Bay Trappers) they will once again be together as members of the North Bay Skyhawks.

After getting off to somewhat of a slow start last season, Brad went on to post 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points in 40 games.

“Brad went through a bit of a learning curve last season and was used sparingly at the beginning of the season. As the year went on, his skating improved and he became a good offensive player for us by year’s end,” stated Skyhawks head coach Darren Turcotte.

“I am looking for Brad to put up some nice numbers for us this season.”

The 6’0” 185 lb. younger brother, Tyler, is coming off a great season in which he led the Great North Midget League in goal scoring with 38 and finished second in total points with 65 in just 34 games. After his success last season at the Midget level, The Skyhawks claim Tyler had numerous opportunities to tryout for several other Junior A team’s but they say he made it clear to them that the Skyhawks organization is his number one choice.

“Tyler’s goal since being one of the last cuts from last year’s camp was to play for the Skyhawks. We appreciate Tyler’s loyalty to his local Junior A team and look forward to him being a successful player in the next 2 years in North Bay,” said Turcotte.

“It is obvious Tyler has had success finding the back of the net in the past couple of seasons and we are hoping he can do the same for us this coming season.”

“I have heard from numerous people that have watched the Hummel players growing up and all have said the same thing: Brad and Tyler are both good players, but on the ice together, they become that much better. I guess it has something to do with knowing where each another is all the time.”

With the announcement of the Hummel brothers signings, the Skyhawks have now 7 player commitments for the upcoming winter prior to the start of training camp.
