Two crews from CBC's Hockeyville/Hockey Night in Canada will be coming to North Bay in the next few days and weeks to shoot a feature on North Bay as part of the 2007 Kraft Hockeyville competition.

One crew will be in North Bay on Friday to interview Tom Hedican about his unique Coach 4 Food initiative and a second TV crew will highlight this year's Canadian Pond Hockey Face-Off at the Education Centre Pond behind Canadore College from February 23rd to 25th.

“We urge local merchants, residents and schools to put up “North Bay is Hockeyville” signs across the city,” said Canadian Pond Hockey Face-Off Chair Chris Dawson who put the video submission called “Pond Hockey Pride” together.

On Monday the first portion of the contest opened for the public's on-line voting and North Bay's video submission called, "Pond Hockey Pride." It highlights what North Bay does through hockey including the Canadian Pond Hockey Face-Off outreach program and Tom Hedican's Coach 4 Food campaign. The public can go-online and vote more than once from February 5th to 23rd for a chance to win one of five merit prizes in Fun, Family, Fitness, Food, and Fairness categories.

“Vote early and vote often,” said Canadian Pond Hockey Face-Off Chair Chris Dawson.

“The video is on-line and now we need North Bay to show support to show the CBC TV crews that we are Hockeyville! Signs across town saying vote for North Bay at www.cbc.ca/hockeyville would help the cause too!”

The Canadian Pond Hockey Face-Off committee put the submission together with support from the mayor and Memorial Gardens staff. The winning community will be given $50,000.00 in arena renovations plus it will host an NHL pre-season game. Hockeyville judges will announce the top 10 on March 4th.
