Hives wins Provincial Bronze

Jesse Hives came home from the Long Course Provincials in Nepean with a bronze medal in the 11 year old 100 backstrokes with a personal best time of 1:14:93.
Jesse Hives came home from the Long Course Provincials in Nepean with a bronze medal in the 11 year old 100 backstrokes with a personal best time of 1:14:93. She came close to a medal again on the final day in the 200 backstroke by placing fourth by .40 seconds. Hives finished the meet with a fifth in the 100 butterfly, seventh in the 200 butterfly, ninth in the 400 individual medley and tenth in the 200 individual medley.

Joining Hives at Provincials were teammates Sydney Hughes, Jaydan Jackson, Kylie Weber, Sierra McCourt and Bryanna Penno. Hughes and Weber swam at their first provincials posting some solid results. Hughes posted her best time of the season in the 11-year-old 50 freestyle with a time of 31:05. She managed a top six placing in Ontario. She had personal best times in the 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke and the 200 butterfly.

Jaydan Jackson swam four events with a top eleventh placing in the 12 year old 100 backstroke. She swam three other events over the weekend, which included the 50 freestyle, 100 and 200 butterfly. Kylie Weber was impressive in her four events achieving personal best in the 100 and 200 butterfly and the 200 and 400 individual medley in the 12-year-old category.

Hives, Hughes, Jackson and Weber joined together to swim three different relays such as the 200 freestyle, the 200 and 400 medley relay throughout the four-day meet. The four young swimmers managed to set a club record in the 400 medley relay as well as placing top 16 in Ontario.

Sierra McCourt and Bryanna Penno had a fantastic weekend. Both swimmers qualified for finals in four events. McCourt had two unbelievable swims in the 13-year-old 100 butterfly and 400 individual medley posting an Age Group National time in the 400 I.M. She came home with a fifth, two sixths, and one eighth placing overall in her events. Penno swam in the 14-year-old category and was ever so close to a bronze medal in the 200 butterfly, placing fourth. Penno placed sixth in the 200 breast, seventh in the 100 butterfly and eighth in the 100 breast. She as well, qualified for the Age Group Nationals being held in Montreal July 22 to 25 as well as Senior Provincials next season. Penno and McCourt teamed together with Jackson and Hives on the first day of competition to swim in the 13 and 14 year old 200 medley relay placing 18 overall. Penno will continue to practice for the next few weeks and then travel to Montreal for Nationals.
