The U16 girls’ North Bay Spartans basketball team competed in the Ontario Basketball League for the first time this season.

With it being their first year in the OBL they set a goal at the beginning of the year to grow as a team and be better in May than they were in November.

That is exactly what they did and more.

After finishing the first half of the season 3-3 with a couple last minute nail-biters, they made the necessary adjustments and put in the energy and commitment every practice to finish the second half undefeated at 6-0, which allowed them to claim the championship title for pool D.

With Ontario Cup around the corner the players and coaches are putting in hours of basketball to prepare for a chance to medal and end the season strong.

Each player on the Spartans team brings something different to the court with unique skills and abilities, but one thing they all have in common is their love for the game.

The OBA season will wrap up early May, but these girls are already preparing and planning for next season by participating in the second annual Northern Elite Training program held throughout the summer here in North Bay.
