It’s pretty special for an athlete to be a dominant player in two different sports. It’s even more amazing when a great athlete like that dominates in another sport that he’s never played before.

That’s exactly what West Ferris Trojans Striker John Gore has done as he scored seven goals in six regular season games leading his school’s Sr. Boys Soccer team to first place in the regular season standings.

The grade 12 student is known for his speed on the football field as one of the NDA’s top receivers the past few years, as well as being an All-Star basketball player on the NDA Sr. boys championship squad.

Gore actually tried the game of soccer last season as he attempted to play goal for the Trojans but didn’t like the position and the game.

His coach and teammates figured this season they could try and transform Gore into an NDA soccer star if he was able to combine his great speed on the football field and his tremendous passing skills from the basketball court.

“It’s been very encouraging,” said Gore.

“A lot of the guys convinced me to come out at the start of the year.”

Gore believes he was able to pick up the new sport quickly by using his instincts.

“My core vision and my peripheral vision on the field and on the basketball court has just helped me,” he said.

Trojans head coach Paul Cook isn’t all that surprised to see Gore dominate at European football.

“There’s really not much the coaching staff has to say to him to improve his game he’s just one of those kids that’s naturally gifted and if he continues to work hard I think he’s going to excel beyond high school sports,” said Cook.

Still, Gore admits he’s a little bit surprised that he averaged more than a goal a game in the lower scoring version of football.

“I like to set up guys too it just turns out that I’ve put the ball in the net as well too,” he said.
