Fricker Teams Win Trojan Classic

The Fricker Girls and Boys Basketball teams captured the 21st Annual Trojan Classic held over the weekend at West Ferris Secondary School and Fricker Elementary School.
The Fricker Girls and Boys Basketball teams captured the 21st Annual Trojan Classic held over the weekend at West Ferris Secondary School and Fricker Elementary School. The 12 team Tournament was filled with some exciting games throughout the weekend.

In the Girls final Fricker defeated a very hard working team Cite des Jeunes 27-24. The game was a see saw affair that had numerous lead changes throughout the game. The game ended tied at 18-18 after regulation time. In Overtime both teams scored early but 2 late free throws by Leandra Nawej sealed the victory for the Firebirds. Ariane Lebebvre led the way with 14 points and was selected game MVP for Cite. Brittany Coughlin was the leading scorer for Fricker with 11 points. Nawej was selected game MVP and Regan Jackson was the tournament MVP.

In the Boys final it was very close with Fricker escaping with a narrow 36-34 victory. Silver started off fast and lead 10-6 after the first quarter. Fricker was solid in the 2nd and took a narrow 18-17 lead into the half. The game featured a late flurry by the Spartans but it wasn't enough to beat the Firebirds. Justin Bodroghy led the Spartans with 12 points which included 2 three pointers. Alex Bernardi was the high man for Fricker with 13 points. Bernardi was the game MVP and Eric Bowman from Fricker was selected the MVP of the tournament. Jesse Pledge was named the Game MVP for Silver Birches.
