They say you need good goaltending if you are going to win a championship.

Well if that’s the case then  Assante could be on their way to winning the North Bay Men’s Ball Hockey League championship and the coveted John Loyst Cup.  Assante goaltender Jason Ferguson made numerous spectacular saves Monday night as Assante defeated the three-time defending champions Duncor 3-1 to take a 1-0 game lead in their best of 3 final.

Duncor held the play for the majority of the night but were continually frustrated by the play of Ferguson.  In fact, Duncor’s only goal came off a deflection of an Assante player into their own net.  Ferguson’s performance comes on the heels of a 1-0 shutout win over first place Rug A Roo last Thursday that propelled Assante to the finals.

Goal scores for Assante were Kyle Radigan, Quin Harding and Dan Madigan.  Mason McMahon replied for Assante.  Game 2 goes Tuesday night 7:30 p.m. at the West Ferris Arena

22 Wing Win Consolation Final

22 Wing claimed the Consolation Championship last Thursday with a 9-4 win over King Sports, winning the best 2 of 3 final 2 games to 1. Scoring for 22 Wing were Kory Clermont with 5 goals, Carson James with 2 while Shane Toms and Matt Dubac had singles in the win.  Scoring for King Sports was Bryce McIntyre with 3 while Andre Landry and Scott Walpole got the others.
