The Eurocamp Stars AAA Peewee squad lost to the Ottawa Hitmen in the final of the Ottawa Little Senators AAA tournament on the weekend.

The Peewee AAA team made up of Northern Ontario players from North Bay, Sudbury, and Temiskaming Shores finished the event with five wins and only one loss.

Eurocamp Stars coach Randy Edmonds was pleased with the teams’ performance.

“We were extremely happy with the outcome in this spring tournament and were informed on the weekend by the Capital Sports Management group that spring/summer hockey is the fastest growing hockey in North America today where some teams travel to Vancouver , Calgary and Chicago to play tournaments,” said Edmonds in his second season of coaching a spring rep Peewee team based out of North Bay.

Novices go winless

The Eurocamp Stars Novice squad wasn’t as successful as its older cousins as they lost all four of their games in the Little Senators tournament.

Edmonds was surprised at the level of play.

“They (the Novice competition) really understand the concept of passing the puck to each other and using all five players on the ice,” said Edmonds.

“We still want to transport the puck by ourselves a little too much.”

Edmonds says the Stars are done for the Spring but will return to the ice for more tournament play in August at the Can Lan International Tournament in Toronto. He adds that they will be sending three teams to the tournament including the Peewee’s the Novice’s and a third team made up of players born in the year 2000.
