North Bay Trappers forward Mitchell Davis has been selected by the Erie Otters with the 203rd overall pick in the 11th round of the annual OHL Draft.

The North Bay Trappers forward was named the Great North Midget League's rookie of the year. He finished with 30 goals and 32 assists in 34 regular season games with the Trappers this season. Davis was also the NOHA All-Stars leading scorer at the OHL Cup but was cut at the Northern Ontario Under-17 camp recently in Espanola.

Erie Otters scout Perry Olivier has been watching Davis for years now and knows what he has to offer.

“His biggest asset is he’s willing to work and compete at the level he needs to be at to be a successful player,” Olivier said about Davis prior to Saturday's draft.

“He has determination but it’s a well known fact he needs to work on his skating.”

The young snipers stock definitely dropped as at least 5 other Great North Midget League rookies were taken ahead of him.

Sault Ste. Marie's David Quesnele was first player chosen from the Great North Midget League. The North Stars forward was selected in the second round by the Peterborough Petes.

This weekend Davis is taking part in the North Bay Skyhawks Spring Tryout camp at Pete Palangio arena.

After the draft, Olivier told BayToday.ca that the Otters organization would be excited to have their draft pick hone his skills with the Skyhawks this fall.
