Edmonds back in North Bay

Randy Edmonds is back in North Bay weighing his options. For the first time in his 14 year coaching career, the North Bay native was fired.

Edmonds signed on to coach the Augsburg Panthers of the DEL pro league in Germany this summer after spending one season with the Skyhawks. But Edmonds admits he knew what he was getting into when he took the job. He says German pro teams are notorious for making snap coaching changes; noting one team in the DEL has had eight coaches in the past three years.

“We lost five in a row plus a penalty shot loss," Edmonds told BayToday.ca.

"The owner made the decision. The GM myself and the team were shocked. The team has lost two straight since I left the team including a 5-2 loss to a team who played in the second league last season.

“The funny thing is 14 days ago we were the Cinderella team of the league by beating Pierre Page’s team 5-4 on National TV at that point we had more points than last year’s team then injuries hit us hard with our four top players going down and then we struggled.

“We had 16 new players and were the youngest team in the league our seasonal goal was to be .500 and we were there all games except the final six.”

The good news is Edmonds comes back home where he can concentrate on finding a coaching position in North America and spend the winter with his wife and two children in North Bay. That’s not a bad option for Edmonds, considering his top priority over the summer months was to find a coaching job in Canada or the United States.
