The Nipissing University Lakers men’s volleyball team have been named the OCAA team of the week. The Lakers captured gold at the 2013 CCAA National Volleyball Championship hosted by Niagara College in Welland, Ontario.

The Lakers dominated throughout the tournament and collected the second consecutive National banner for Ontario. Previous to Nipissing and Humber the only other National title won by an Ontario team belonged to the Sheridan Bruins in 1983.

Lakers fourth year player Frankie Edgecombe showed why he was the first Lakers men’s volleyball player to be named a CCAA All Canadian by putting in three solid matches collecting 27 kills, six blocks and six aces on the way to being named the CCAA Championship MVP. For these accomplishments Edgecombe is named this week’s OCAA men’s volleyball and OCAA overall male athlete of the week.

Edgecombe will also represent Nipissing University at the OCAA All Star game held at Sheridan College March 16, 2013.
