Daly Stevens earns two silvers at World Karate and Kickboxing Commission National Championships

Rhane Daly Stevens a grade 10 student at École secondaire publique Odyssée, North Bay competed at the World Karate and Kickboxing Commission (WKC) Canadian National Championships this past weekend in Ottawa.

Daly Stevens clinched two silver medals in both the 15-17-year-old boys point sparring, and continuous sparring divisions. (-60kg weight class)

This is Daly Stevens's seventh time qualifying for Worlds. 

The top four competitors in each division at the National Championships are eligible to attend the WKC World Championships being held in November of this year in Orlando Florida, U.S.A.

Rhane qualified for Nationals in April at the Ontario Provincials held in London, ON securing his position with two Gold medals in point sparring, and continuous sparring respectively.

Daly Stevens earned his black belt (Shodan) in Shotokan Karate in 2013, and is testing for his second degree black belt (Nidan) in June this year. 

Rhane currently practices karate at 3 Fires Martial Arts Academy in North Bay supported by Shihan Darrell Couchie, trains and develops conditioning at Action's School of Fitness & Arts with Corey Jackson. 

Furthermore Rhane also trains and fights with the Douvris Martial Arts competitive team from Ottawa, led by Master John Douvris.

Daly Stevens once again earned the opportunity to join the 100-plus members of Team Canada in facing competition from around the world, with last year's event attracting competitors from over 16 countries.

The worlds tournament not only provides an opportunity to face international competition, but the six-day event also includes seminars and the gives athletes the chance to see different styles and techniques.

Daly Stevens continues to train hard and looks forward to representing Canada at the World Championship in November.
