Cor Maximus defended their title with a close 25-24 victory over Viking Quest in the Men's competitive final of the 4th Annual Canadian Pond Hockey Face-off at the Education Centre pond behind Canadore College and Nipissing University on Sunday.

The Canadian Pond Hockey Face-Off outreach team made up of minor hockey players from Atlanta and 3 players from the North Bay area combined forces to make it all the way to the final before falling to the Powassan Hawks.

Despite the freezing rain last week the tournament ice conditions were great for the 50 plus teams that took part thanks in large part to the ice crew.

"Ryan Drouin and his ice making team did a fantastic job of making this happen," said Canadian Pond Hockey Face-Off co-chair Chris Dawson.

"Overall, we have a tremendous group of committee members and volunteers that helped make this a memorable weekend for another year."
