The 2007 Coach4Food campaign is officially at the halfway mark and already the incredible initiative has smashed the record totals from last year.

The North Bay Food Bank fundraiser spearheaded by European hockey coach and North Bay native Tom Hedican has accumulated a whopping 8,707 pounds during the first eight practices.

“I was stunned last year but good news is people are coming up with unique ways to gather food this year,” said Hedican noting the incredible totals from the Ice Capps ringette team which gathered more than 3,000 pounds alone.

Hedican will take Friday off and get back on the ice Saturday for a number of practices in exchange for food bank donations.

Hedican has eight practices remaining and he says the event will wrap up on December 23rd.
