Several different organizations have added to Tom Hedican's Coach4Food Program for area food banks. The Powassan Moore Propane Midget Hawks and the Powassan Hawks Bantam A teams combined to add 582 pounds. Their sponsors, Ernie and the late Shirley Hedican, and daughter Mary-Lynn and husband Dale, then added 750 pounds to the team's total with their cash donation.

St. Joseph Scollard Hall Bears Hockey and the Carter Cup Tournament added a cash donation the equivalent of 375 pounds while Mr. PJ Anello's Grade 11 Marketing Class from SJSH, with the sale of popcorn, boosted it another 450 pounds with their cash contribution. Dr. Karen Morris and staff then added another 125 pounds with cash and food.

Combined, the donations have boosted Coach4Food above 18 tons to 36,328 pounds.

The Coach4Food Program, whereby Hedican runs professional drills during minor hockey practices in exchange for donations to area food banks, was inspired by rock star Bruce Springsteen's dedication to food banks in Canada and the U.S.

Coach4Food concludes this weekend with the total being announced Tuesday, December 23rd.
