Tom Hedican is at it again and this year he hopes to smash last year’s total of 2.5 tonnes of food.

The professional hockey coach who has been spending the fall jumping between Germany, Denmark, Switzerland and Sudbury doing consulting work is coming home for the holidays to run his very special program which was a big part of North Bay’s winning Hockeyville 2007 bid.

“I basically volunteer to run a team's practice using European and NHL skill drills,” Hedican said about the Coach4Food program he started two years ago.

In return the players bring cash or food donations to the practices in exchange for Hedican’s generous services. The practices are run on the team's practice ice time.

Hedican says businesses have also come forward to sponsor the practices. The businesses will add donations to what he expects will be more impressive cash and food totals from area hockey teams.

Now all Hedican needs is teams to instruct.

Hedican asks that any teams with players aged 10 and over that are interested in having him run a practice should contact him via email at [email protected]
