North Bay has made it into the top 40 for the 2007 CBC Kraft Hockeyville Competition. The winning community will host an NHL exhibition game next fall and receive $50,000 for arena renovations.
The North Bay submission called, “Pond Hockey Pride,” was put together by the Canadian Pond Hockey Face-Off committee. This year the submission includes a three-minute video, which highlights what North Bay does through hockey. The video includes features on last year’s Pond Hockey Outreach program and Tom Hedican’s “Coach 4 Food” initiative.
“Kraft Hockeyville is all about the spirit of hockey and the pond hockey outreach and the coach 4 food campaign showed how generous our community is,” said Canadian Pond Hockey Face-Off Chair Chris Dawson who wrote and edited the video with help from Nugget Sports Editor Ken Pagan.
Mayor Vic Fedeli signed the Hockeyville application back in the middle of January and he believes North Bay will be Hockeyville.
“I think it’s a great way to put North Bay on the map,” said Fedeli.
“This is a great contest and I’ve watched the video and I think we have a tremendous shot at the title.”
The first part of the on-line contest begins on February 5th as voters can visit the Hockeyville website and vote for Merit Prizes where you can rate the videos in a number of categories including, Fun, Family, Fairness, Food, and Fitness. Voting for the merit categories takes place between February 5th and February 23rd.
On March 4th a panel of judges will announce the top 10 video submissions and those communities will be featured on air on Kraft Hockeyville on CBC and online/phone voting for the top 5 will go from March 4th to 9th.
