Graduating captain Justin Roy handed over the torch to Kody Carnevale who will take over the captain's duties for the North Bay Skyhawks in 2008-2009.

Carnevale recorded 11 goals and added 16 assists in 49 games last year in his second season with the NOJHL club.

Carnevale - an assistant captain last year - was surprised to find out he was getting the "C."

"It’s a lot of excitement but a bit of nerves but it’s an honour to be a captain of any team and they are looking to me for leadership and I plan to bring that," Carnevale said at the press conference outside Memorial Gardens Thursday morning.

Skyhawks head coach Ian Swalucynski discussed the decision with G.M. Guy Blanchard and they both felt having another local area player as captain is a perfect fit.

"Kody is an intense guy," said Swalucynski.

"He likes being in the leader role and he was last year. He’s a gritty guy and keeps guys in line at practice."

Carnevale has worn the "C" before, as he captained the North Bay Trappers during their '05-'06 season when they hosted the Central Regional Midget Championships.

With the uncertainty of the franchise with University Hockey taking over the arena lease next fall, Carnevale realizes he could be the Junior 'A' franchises final captain.

"If that’s the case it’s just another honor added to the whole situation," said Carnevale.
