The North Bay Canoe Club attended the Gananoque Regatta on the weekend and came away with some very impressive results.

Leading the way on Saturday was Zeyana Laplante with three first place ribbons (K-1, K-2, K-4) followed by her sister Zaffia Laplante with two first place ribbons (K-1,K-2). Gavin McGirr and Justin Rancourt paddled a great K-2 race and came away with a nice third place finish while Adam D’Agostino and Mathew Robinson came away with several top placings in a very competitive Bantam Boys division.

On Sunday, the meet featured midget aged and up paddlers from Ottawa and Quebec clubs.

Devin McGirr and Dylan Jackson dominated the field in the K-2 event and came away with a solid gold medal finish. The C-4 team of Marc Charron, Ben Robitaille, John Wilkinson and Alex Lachance paddled to a fine second place finish, while Andrew Vierich, Collin Doucette and Martin Roy earned top three placings in their C-1, C-2 and K-1 events.

Coaches Johnathan Blackadar and Shawna Fournier were quite pleased with the athlete’s improved performances and proud of the sportsmanship they displayed. Next up for the Canoe Club is the Dragon Boat Festival at Trout Lake’s Olmstead Beach on Saturday, July 21st.

Canoe Club officials add that last minute entries are still available for the Dragon Boat Festival. They are also still looking for volunteers to help out at the annual event.
