Canada Games Day Planned for North Bay

The 2007 Canada Winter Games are taking place in Whitehorse, Yukon commencing February 23rd, 2007. As part of the process to heighten the awareness of the Games for Canadians, the Canada Games Council has introduced a community based programs called “Canada Games Day”. The intent of the event is to provide greater exposure for the Games and to make local children and their families more aware of the Games program.

The Canadore Recreation and Leisure Studies program in cooperation with the Canada Games Council is sponsoring a program to take place on Thursday February 1st at the College Education Gymnasium. Children from Ferris Glen School will be coming to Canadore to participate in the Canada Games Day.

The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will include opening ceremonies, the reading of the athlete’s oath and a full day of participation in activities designed to encourage participation and fund.

“The Games are an important sporting activity in Canada and our class is using this special event as a learning experience while at the same time offering a fun day for the children from the school," said student spokepserson Dana Gignac.

“A series of games have been selected from a list provided by the Canada Games Council and each child will compete through a series of rotations until they have participated in all of the activities. The emphasis is on fun and participation and while their will be competition at each play station, the intent is to have the entire participants feel like winners at the end," Gignac added.
