The North Bay Bulldogs are losing one of their top rivals as the Sudbury Spartans have announced they will take a leave of absense from the Northern Football Conference due to an extremely low turnout of players for tryouts earlier this month.

"It is hoped that this one year leave will allow the Spartan organization the time to restructure itself and to actively recruit the number of players required to compete successfully," Spartans head coach Chris Bartolucci said in a press release.

The Spartans have been a part of the NFC for 53 years and the league schedule still doesn't reflect their absense as they were scheduled to start the season on June 2nd versus the Oakville Longhorns.

The Bulldogs were scheduled to face the Spartans in Sudbury on June 16th.
